Located in the Hongseong region of western South Korea, this daring rescue operation saw the retrieval of nearly 200 innocent canines that had endured deplorable living conditions in cramped and filthy cages for far too long.
Among the rescued dogs were a variety of breeds, including Pomeranians, poodles, huskies, corgis, Chihuahuas, Yorkshire terriers, Shih Tzus, and French bulldogs. For eight agonizing years, these animals were subjected to a life marked by both the horrors of meat production and the potential for being sold as pets.
Nara Kim, a representative of HSI South Korea, highlighted the disturbing overlap between puppy mills and dog meat farms in the region, where these unfortunate dogs fell victim to the profit-driven motives of two abusive industries. Their fate teetered precariously between being sold as pets or destined for the meat market.
Tragically, many of these dogs, including newborns, were discovered in cages with exposed wire floors, leading to untreated injuries and suffering. The only source of warmth for the helpless newborns were heat lamps, with a few discarded tires serving as insulation. Meanwhile, those bred for meat were left to endure the freezing cold until they were purchased by local restaurants.
HSI shared a poignant video on Facebook, shedding light on the dismal and inhumane conditions these dogs had endured. The caption underscored the organization’s commitment to the rescue mission, vowing to send these deserving dogs to new, loving homes in Canada and the United States.
