TEXAS – Kickie D’Alfonso’s foster home for animals, which is located in Austin, Texas, is a place where magical transformations take place.
The vet tech there specializes in tough cases – sick, injured, abandoned and unwanted animals who would have little chance of survival without D’Alfonso.
It was right here that Lai Lai the one-eyed Boxer and Squirtle the injured cat met and became best friends, reported The Dodo. Squirtle was taken in by D’Alfonso after he was found with open wounds all over his entire body and no skin left on his tail.
One month later, Lai Lai joined the family with an infected eye that had to be removed, as well as heartworm and multiple infected tick bites.
This Boxer used to hate cats, but her human made the right decision in attempting to introduce her to the white ball of fur, she explained The Dodo:
“Squirtle has changed her. He is an insanely affectionate cat”.
D’Alfonso absolutely loves caring for pets with no hope, and giving them a second chance at life, she said to The Dodo:
“They are typically tossed aside and forgotten. Our friends like to say the jankier, less teeth, less hair, etc., the quicker they go to Kickie’s house”.
Her group of misfits includes six mature dogs, a rescue pig who has knee problems, a Chihuahua who had been abandoned a total of eight times, one cat who’d been thrown out of a moving car and another kitty who was found in a bucket of wet cement.
D’Alfonso is currently trying to get all these animals adopted into loving homes, and is hoping for Lai Lai and Squirtle to go together.
