A young woman came to the rescue of a newborn baby abandoned by his mother in the street, and whose brother had just died. A kitten who ate dirt to survive. Despite a gloomy prognosis, he got through it!
The state of Idaho in the United States, for its rural part, is not necessarily known for the proliferation of feral and stray cats. However, one evening, Annalize Burke ‘s family saw a cat outside her home, apparently unattached.
The next morning, curious, Annalize sets out to look for the feline. She then comes across 2 newborns, one of whom was already dead . The other would suffer the same fate if no one acted in his favor. Especially since his mother seemed to have deserted the place .
Annalize decided to take him to a local shelter , while waiting for his mother to reappear. “ The kitten had been alone under the shed for at least 8 hours ,” “ We dug to get him out. His face and mouth were covered in dirt, and there was dirt in his throat. He coughed and wheezed. »
In reality, the kitten, named Gemma , had eaten dirt and tiny stones to survive. The next night was a long one, mainly spent keeping Gemma alive before taking her to a vet. A veterinarian consulted first thing the next morning. The latter was pessimistic about the newborn’s chances of survival .
24 hour attention!
“ We cried before we said goodbye ,” says Annalize before continuing: “ The vet asked if we wanted to try to keep him alive. I said I would try. » So, Annalize leaves her seasonal job to devote herself exclusively to saving this kitten. You had to be present 24 hours a day .
“ I didn’t know if he was going to die or survive, and he scared us a few times when he stopped breathing. Miraculously, he was out of the woods! » So, perseverance pays off. At almost 6 weeks, Gemma begins to eat on her own , and liquids. The cat is regaining strength and now no longer has the ax of death hanging over her.
“ She really had an extreme will to live. It was worth putting my life on hold for her ,” says Annalize , whose act must be commended.
