Navigating NFL free agency can be a rollercoaster for players and their families, and Alyssa Takitaki, wife of linebacker Sione Takitaki, is offering a candid and humorous look at the uncertainty that comes with it.
Takitaki, 29, was released by the New England Patriots three weeks ago after spending just one season with the team. The former Cleveland Browns linebacker had signed with New England as an unrestricted free agent last offseason, but now, with his future up in the air, his wife is feeling the effects of life in limbo.
Taking to TikTok on Monday, Alyssa shared a lighthearted but real take on the struggles of not knowing where they will live next, describing their current situation as being “essentially homeless.”
Alyssa Takitaki on the Unpredictability of NFL Free Agency
In the viral TikTok video, Alyssa gave her 13,300 followers an inside look at the unpredictable world of free agency.
“The NFL free agency is crazy,” she said. “I don’t know where I’m going to live. I don’t know where I’m going to live! We’re essentially homeless… for now.”
She went on to explain the chaotic process of free agency, detailing how teams reach out, offers come and go, and plans constantly change at the last minute.
“You think you’re going somewhere, and then last minute… you’re actually going over here,” she added, referring to the last-minute nature of NFL signings.

From Draft Day Uncertainty to Free Agency Chaos
This isn’t the first time the Takitaki family has faced uncertainty in the NFL. Alyssa, who has been with Sione since 2016, recalled how even his draft day was unpredictable.
“It’s happened every time,” she shared. “Even when my husband got drafted, all of the teams that we thought we were going to… no, no, no. In fact, when he got the call, he was in the bathroom… the story is just so insane.”
She summed up the unpredictability of life as an NFL wife with a humorous yet truthful observation:
“The only sure thing in the NFL is that it’s unsure. I don’t know where we’re going to be, but I can count on the fact that we don’t know where we’re going to be.”
Alyssa even admitted that she has to stop herself from browsing homes on Zillow, knowing that any plan could change in an instant.
Sione Takitaki’s NFL Journey
Takitaki was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Brigham Young University (BYU). Over six seasons, he has played in 83 regular-season games, making 40 starts, and has recorded 258 total tackles, four sacks, and two interceptions.
His playoff experience includes three postseason starts, where he has contributed 11 total tackles and one interception.
During his brief stint with the Patriots in 2023, Takitaki played in 11 games, making four starts and finishing the season with 18 total tackles and three special teams tackles.
What’s Next for the Takitakis?
For now, the Takitaki family remains in limbo, waiting to see which NFL team will offer Sione his next opportunity. But one thing is clear—Alyssa is embracing the uncertainty with humor.
As the NFL offseason unfolds, free agency will continue to shake up rosters, and Sione’s next move will determine where the Takitakis finally settle down. Until then, Alyssa’s relatable take on the unpredictability of NFL life is resonating with fans who now have a firsthand glimpse into what it’s like to be married to a professional athlete on the move.
