Bryce Dallas Howard Pays Tribute to Her Dad Ron Howard on His 71st Birthday: “I Love You More Than Words Can Express”
On March 1, Bryce Dallas Howard shared a touching tribute on Instagram to celebrate her dad Ron Howard’s 71st birthday. The actress, who also celebrates her own birthday the following day, posted a photo of herself and her dad at a gala, both smiling joyfully as she rested her head on his shoulder.
“I love you so much Dad, more than words can say 🥹❤️,” Bryce wrote in the heartfelt caption. “Happy Birthday @realronhoward!”
Bryce, 43, has always been open about her close bond with her father, the acclaimed filmmaker. The two recently appeared together on a panel at MegaCon in Orlando, where Ron shared how he tried to protect Bryce from the challenges he faced as a child actor. Reflecting on his own upbringing in Oklahoma, Ron spoke of how his parents, director Rance Howard and actress Jean Speegle, encouraged him to pursue acting as a child, leading to his role as Opie Taylor on The Andy Griffith Show.
Ron revealed that he noticed Bryce’s natural talent for performing at a young age, but he and his wife Cheryl decided not to allow her to follow in his footsteps as a child actor. “We didn’t have the bandwidth to do what my parents did, which is really supervising… And I felt like the Opie mythology was a little too much for a kid to face,” he said.
Bryce recently reminisced about spending time on her dad’s film sets as a child during a panel at Steel City Con. She shared how she often tagged along with him, as the oldest of four children, making it easier for her mom. “I just thought it was normal to bring your kid to work every day,” she said, reflecting on her father’s lifelong career in the industry.
Though Bryce has visited her dad’s sets as an extra in the past, she expressed her desire to work with him professionally, with real dialogue. “I want to. I want to very badly,” she shared, playfully hinting at the possibility.
Ron shares Bryce with his wife Cheryl, whom he married in 1975. The couple also has three other children: twin daughters Jocelyn and Paige, 40, and son Reed, 37.
