The family of Somprasong Srithongkhum, 56, worried when he did not return home in Chanthaburi province, Thailand on the morning of October 25. Srithongkhum’s cousin Somporn went out to look for him but found only Mhee, the family’s 6-year-old dog, standing alone by the pond with Mhee’s flip-flops and flashlight. Suspecting her brother might have slipped and drowned in the pond, she contacted the rescue team to find the body. It took 10 minutes for the rescue team to find Mr. Somprasong’s body. His wife burst into tears when she saw this heartbreaking scene. Family members believe the farmer fell into a pond while trying to turn on a sprinkler to irrigate durians at a farm.
Ms Somporn said: “Our daily job is to go out to get rubber in the morning but last night he told me he was sick. I went to see him this morning to see if he needed any medication but I didn’t see him at home. I wandered around looking for him and found Mhee sitting next to his slippers. The dog was there as if ordered to wait for someone. I think my brother accidentally fell into the pond when he went there to open the sprinkler valve to water the durian on the farm. He might fall because he’s unwell.” Police found no suspicious details in Mr. Somprasong’s death and his family accepted it as an accident.
