A tweet by New York City Mayor Eric Adams praising Sean “Diddy” Combs has resurfaced following recent indictments against both men on federal charges. The tweet, posted in September last year, lauded Combs as “the ‘bad boy’ of entertainment” and celebrated his contributions to the city, stating, “He’s given so much back to his roots, and every move he makes is proof that hustle pays off. Enjoy your key to the city, @Diddy!”
Combs, who was awarded a key to the city—a symbol of civic recognition—returned it in June at Adams’ request after a video surfaced showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura. Now, both Combs and Adams find themselves facing serious legal challenges.
Adams, the first sitting mayor in modern history to face federal criminal charges, has been indicted on counts including bribery, wire fraud, and conspiracy. The charges are linked to a federal investigation into his 2021 mayoral campaign and alleged connections with Turkish officials. Adams has denied any wrongdoing and stated that he will not resign despite calls from lawmakers for him to do so.
As for Combs, he has pleaded not guilty to charges of racketeering, sex trafficking, and other allegations related to running a “criminal enterprise” that allegedly coerced women into sexual acts. Federal prosecutors claim Combs threatened and abused women to fulfill his sexual desires, forcing them into recorded sexual activities referred to as “Freak Offs.” His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, has firmly denied these allegations, asserting that Combs is an innocent man determined to fight the charges. Combs is also facing at least nine civil lawsuits alleging rape and sexual abuse.
